Well, as I quickly approach another birthday, which I am trying (unsuccessfully) to avoid, I sit wondering (at the request of family for present ideas) what I really need. Well intentions aside (and hopefully I don't insult when I say), I'm tired of getting stuff just to get stuff. So I really have been trying to think of what I need... But honestly, I can't come up with anything.
Then I read the Calgary Sun, and come across an article "Make Jens Day." This inspired a wonderful idea and solution to my problem.
For my birthday, please skip the presents. I really do appreciate the thought and kindness but (unless you're gifting a trip outside North America, lol) I really don't need or want anything material.
What would be amazing is if every person who reads this performs one random of of kindness (or more, of you like, of course!). This could be anything, the possibilities are endless, and it truly is what would make me happy.
Open the door for someone, smile at a stranger, donate a toonie to a charity, drop off some cans that have been sitting in your pantry for months. Offer to watch a friends kids for an hour, say thank you, wish somebody to have a wonderful day. Pray for the health Of others, visit someone who needs visitors, send flowers anonymously, pay for the person behind you in drive-thru, mow your neighbors lawn. Make your wife coffee, tell your children how proud of them you are, learn something about your elders.
The possibilities are endless, but it wold make my day :)
I will perform many acts of kindness, but for now, I will thank God that I am making up for lost time with some amazing family and enjoying all that Yellowknife has to offer (even the rain!)
XO
Krystle
