"Be kind, for everyone is fighting some sort of Battle"

Why is it human nature to judge first and ask questions later?

Do we all realize (myself included) how ridiculous we look when we judge someone, then become educated on the subject and suddenly, become sympathetic?

Must we be so quick to judge others to justify ourselves? We must, otherwise we wouldn't be so mail us to someone we really know very little about.

That trailer with the swing set falling apart outside, it's all they can afford.  At least they're doing what they can for their children.  It's amazing what children can do with an imagination and a broken swing set.  Children don't judge; we do.

You're driving down the street and you comment on someone making a horrible fashion statement; "Who would wear that?"  Did you ever stop to think they didn't ask for your opinion? They didn't look in the mirror this morning concerned about what you would think.

What about the guy who's supposed to be a nurse, taking care of you, but "he couldn't even start an I.V. because he's so shaky" and "his voice is so weird, he's creepy"? Maybe that nurse, who has spent his whole life caring for others, just got diagnosed with ALS. Maybe he's deteriorating so quickly that he can't keep up and it's all he can do to take care of himself.  He might not even get approved for disability, even though he's worked and contributed to society his whole life. Oh, yeah, and he has a baby on the way.

We're all so quick to judge "these people," but we're also the first ones to be sympathetic and show concern once we find out their real story.  How hypocritical.  (I'm not excusing myself of this behaviour. I am also guilty.)

So I say to you this: Be aware of your thoughts, as your thoughts transition into actions.  Next time you catch yourself judging anyone, replace those thoughts with three kind ones.  When people are minding their business, mind yours.
